Newest Equitable Bank deposit note builds program to more than $1 billion

TORONTO, March 9, 2021 /CNW/ - Equitable Bank (the "Bank"), a wholly owned subsidiary of Equitable Group Inc. (the "Company") (TSX: EQB) (TSX: EQB.PR.C) today announced the successful closing of a $250 million 4-year fixed rate deposit note due March 10, 2025 (the "Deposit Note").

The Deposit Note – the Bank's third in the past six months – was priced at 120 basis points over comparable term Government of Canada bonds, and will carry a coupon of 1.939%. Coming on the heels of the Company's strongest ever results (both Q4 and annual), continued support from institutional fixed income investors made today's issuance a very successful transaction. Equitable's program now boasts more than $1 billion of deposit notes outstanding.

"With this deposit note, Equitable continues on its course of building consistent growth, providing more opportunities to enrich the lives of Canadians," said Chadwick Westlake, Chief Financial Officer of Equitable Bank. "Having a strong and diversified funding strategy is foundational to our continued success and further strengthens our foothold as Canada's Challenger Bank™."

The issuance was completed with National Bank Financial Inc., CIBC World Markets Inc., and RBC Dominion Securities Inc. acting as joint leads and bookrunners, supported by BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc., Scotia Capital Inc., and TD Securities Inc., acting as co-managers. The Deposit Note ranks equally and rateably with all present and future unsecured and unsubordinated liabilities of the Bank.  It is not eligible for Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation insurance.
